The Southern Rockies, which we call home, is strikingly beautiful and full of rich traditions. We’ve had the opportunity to explore much of this amazing territory and have a deep appreciation and love for the land. We want to share our wonderment of the Southern Rockies with you, to listen to your requests and dreams before creating the ideal vacation for you, and we want to help you experience the spirit of the place.

Taos Rio Chama

Visit New Mexico and immerse yourself in her striking mountain landscapes, rich culture and history, and healing waters. A treasure trove of magical and life-changing experiences, New Mexico offers adventures in pristine wilderness areas combined with world class accommodations and fine dining.

Join us for a 4 day/3 night excursion that includes spectacular hiking in the Southern Rockies, a day of whitewater rafting through landscapes that captured Georgia O’Keeffe’s heart and imagination, and enriching tours to historic Taos Pueblo and the captivating Plaza area of Santa Fe. You’ll also get to participate in a workshop to create a dream catcher as a memory of your Northern New Mexico adventure, and you’ll have quality leisure time at Ojo Caliente, a renowned mineral springs resort.


Day One
Meet in Santa Fe at 9AM with your guide, board our vehicle and drive to Ojo Caliente, a place of healing waters. Check-in at the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs & Spa, and take either a short 1 mile roundtrip walk or a longer 4 mile roundtrip hike. Spend the afternoon at your leisure: soak in the resort’s mineral springs or enjoy one of Ojo’s spa services.
Day Two
Depart for a morning of hiking in the wilderness areas of the Rio Grande Rift Valley, one of the world’s few active rifts. Descend 800 feet along a steep trail to the banks of the Rio Grande River, and capture the essence of this region’s volcanic past. After a picnic lunch, visit the charming artistic town of Taos and the magnificent World Heritage Site Taos pueblo. Dinner will be in Taos, returning to Ojo Caliente for the evening where you can delight in the hot springs under the stars.
Day Three
After checking out from the resort, board your private vehicle for an all-day adventure whitewater rafting on the Rio Chama, considered to be “one of America’s most beautiful Wild and Scenic Rivers”, as it winds through multi-colored sandstone cliffs. A hearty lunch is included. At the end of an invigorating day, you will be transported to Santa Fe where you’ll spend the night at the Hotel Chimayó, steps away from the 400 year old Plaza and historic area.
Day Four
Discover with your private guide the history of the oldest capital city in the United States, starting from the central Plaza that dates back to 1610. The downtown tour includes a visit to the New Mexico History Museum where artifacts and pictures help you better understand the complexities of a unique and evolving culture. Next, a walk through the Palace of the Governors, the oldest public building in the country, is a unique experience in the fascinating past of Santa Fe. A hands-on experience rounds out your vacation: with the help of a Native artist, create your own Dream Catcher to bring home and remind you of your adventure and fun-filled days in New Mexico. The tour will end with a farewell lunch at one of the locals’ favorite restaurants.

Price includes: 2 nights Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs & Spa and 1 night at Hotel Chimayo in Santa Fe, 3 breakfasts (Day Two to Day Four), 4 meals (lunch and dinner on Day Two, lunch on Day Three, and lunch on Day Four, admissions to museums and pueblos, all outdoor adventures mentioned in the program as well as the necessary equipment, a creative workshop in Santa Fe, experienced and knowledgeable guides for each activity and tours, private transportation, and New Mexico’s Gross Receipts Tax.

Price does not include: airfares or other transportation to and from meeting location, spa services, alcoholic beverages, personal expenses, gratuities for guides, and insurance of any kind.

$500 deposit per person is due at booking, payable by credit card, check or using PayPal. Eighty percent (80%) of the deposit is refundable if cancellation is made by written notice 3 weeks prior to departure. Deposits are applied to payment of the program price. Full refund will be provided for cancellations made by Santa Fe Walkabouts.

If you are traveling alone and wish to share a room, we will do our best to find someone on the tour. If a roommate cannot be found, the single supplement will be charged.

Travel and Life & Health insurances are recommended. An “Indemnification and Hold Harmless”/Liability Waiver agreement has to be signed by each participant before starting the trip.

Footprints from the Past
The six day adventure begins with a tour of the historic Santa Fe downtown area and visits to the best museums to introduce you to the culture and history of the region. Hiking and explorations in Abiquiú and Chaco Canyon, in New Mexico; Mesa Verde, Colorado, for walking through the Ancient Puebloan cliff dwellings and along the trails overlooking the stunning land surrounding the mesa; a full experience at Jemez Pueblo, its culture and arts, and the pristine nature around it. At the end, you arrive in Albuquerque for departure, or choose to stay longer for more adventures.
Pueblo Stories
A bike ride to the north of Santa Clara Pueblo along a scenic dirt trail followed by a guided trek through centuries old Puye Cliffs Dwellings and visits to Santa Clara Pueblo and San Ildefonso Pueblo. You will then listen to a Tesuque Pueblo Native as he recounts the stories of his pueblo. On the second day, enjoy an all day hike in the backcountry of Bandelier National Monument. Lunch and dinner in private pueblo homes, accommodation at a Native owned hotel. This adventure begins and ends in Santa Fe.
