La Bajada – Travel the scenic and historic El Camino Real/Old Route 66
Ride to La Bajada Mesa and hike part of the Old Route 66/El Camino Real trail with its switchbacks leading down to the town of La Bajada and Cochiti Pueblo. The high desert views are stunning along this historic trail that served as the royal road from Mexico City to Santa Fe from 1598 until the late 1800s. In later years, this road was part of Route 66, from St. Louis to Santa Monica, a major thoroughfare for adventurers and families heading west.
